On September 16, 2007 I will be doing the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in memory of my dad, Grant Burns, as part of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program. In honor of my dad and his love of cycling, I will be riding his bike for the 18 mile cycling portion. My personal goal is to raise $3,000 to support the society's mission to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. http://www.active.com/donate/tntgla/TriBeckieTri

My short film: Marathon Blues

I am still not training yet (boo hoo!) but I did do something that has to do with Team In Training this week. I went to a Clay Animation Teacher Workshop and made a little film about my TNT expereince. I did it alone and it was very rushed so the timing is a bit off (pause it if you need to read longer). Hope you enjoy.

I am wearing TWO shoes!!!!!

Yes it is true, I am now wearing not one, but TWO shoes. I went to the podiatrist today and picked up my specially made orthotics. I got some new running shoes that are nice and firm and keep my foot from bending. I can walk almost normally without it hurting that much with these inserts and tough shoes. Although I would really love to be in flip flops under the California sunshine, I will take running shoes any day over a surgical shoe or cast! Looks like I will be training in about 2-4 weeks. I will continue to do pool exercise classes, swimming, and maybe riding my bike until then! I am glad to have two feet again!

It will be P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll...

Well, after meeting my team at breakfast on Saturday after their big run of 12 miles, I talked with Gabrielle, our campaign manager, and decided that I would do the P.F. Chang's Rock 'n' Roll 1/2 Marathon in Arizona on January 15th, 2006. It is supposed to be loads of fun with bands at every mile! I attended the Team In Training Winter Season Kick Off yesterday with my parents (I wanted them to really see what this was all about) and it seems like a lot of people will be doing the Arizona event. That will be great to have the friendly support since it seemed like not too many people were going for Maui with me. Although I am still kind of bummed that I can't go to Maui, I am looking forward to this Arizona event and getting back to training. I miss being around a positive group of people trying to achieve a goal and being physically active at the same time.

I go to the podiatrist tomorrow to get my foot checked out. I think I will finally be able to wear regular shoes...two of them that is!!!! I have been doing some pool exercise classes and they are a great workout. I recommend them to anyone, especially with bad joints or a broken foot!
