On September 16, 2007 I will be doing the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in memory of my dad, Grant Burns, as part of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program. In honor of my dad and his love of cycling, I will be riding his bike for the 18 mile cycling portion. My personal goal is to raise $3,000 to support the society's mission to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. http://www.active.com/donate/tntgla/TriBeckieTri

My event is near!

Alright, it has been a while since I have updated this site but the good news is there have been no more injuries and my half marathon event is finally nearing! I will be doing the P.F. Chang half marathon in Phoenix on January 15, 2006. My parents will be going to support me along with my sister and her husband. My dad also has cousins out there who will be cheering me on from the side as I walk 13.1 miles past them! As of this week, my Long Beach TNT teammates and I have raised $33,044.60 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. WOW! This has truly been an awesome experience meeting so many great people sweating and working together to raise money for an important cause and offering emotional support when one of us is affected by cancer in some way through friends and family members, or even being survivors themselves. This season will be over in January, but I have recently made the commitment to become a mentor for the new TNT Summer Team. I will continue to wake up at 7am every Saturday morning and mentor a new set of TNTers who will hopefully have a similar amazing experience as I did. As for any other events...I have my eye on the San Francisco Nike Women's half marathon in October. I would love to actually run now that my foot is healed. I also wouldn't mind getting the Tiffany's finishers necklace from a guy in a tuxedo holding a silver platter of them at the end of the course! That's always nice after 13.1 grueling miles! We'll see!!!
