On September 16, 2007 I will be doing the Nautica Malibu Triathlon in memory of my dad, Grant Burns, as part of The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Team In Training program. In honor of my dad and his love of cycling, I will be riding his bike for the 18 mile cycling portion. My personal goal is to raise $3,000 to support the society's mission to help stop leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. http://www.active.com/donate/tntgla/TriBeckieTri

Here is where I broke my foot...

I found this great illustration of a sesamoid bone. If you look at the red circle, there are two little sesamoids there that sit right under the ball of your foot. I broke one of those! It is so little for all that pain! I thought you could get a better sense of exactly what injury I had. It was a pretty tough bone to break since it is right on the bottom of my foot and absorbs a lot of impact when walking. The good news is that my podiatrist has told me that he has seen a couple of sesamoid injuries this year and mine was healing the best! Alright Sesamoid!!!!! My life has turned into wearing tennis shoes to work and throwing out all my uncomfortable "girly" shoes. I am slowly able to wear a wider variety of shoes now, especially flip flops (yeah, my favorite!) but I will have to replace a lot of them and look for more sensible lower shoes that are made nicely and will take care of my poor feet!
